Frequently Asked Questions

Where does MotR get vehicle data from?

MotR integrates with the official DVLA Vehicle Enquiry API and the official DVSA MOT History Trade API to retrieve real-time vehicle identity and MOT history data for UK-registered vehicles.

What is 'official' data vs 'estimated' data?

Official data comes directly from DVLA or DVSA government APIs and is labelled accordingly in the app. Estimated data (e.g. tyre sizes, oil types, horsepower) is AI-generated based on the vehicle's make, model and year — and is always clearly marked as an estimate.

Is MotR affiliated with DVLA or DVSA?

No. MotR is an independent UK vehicle management app. We use official public APIs provided by DVLA and DVSA under their terms of use, but MotR is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or approved by DVLA, DVSA or any government body.

How current is the vehicle data?

DVLA and DVSA data is fetched in real-time when you add a vehicle or manually refresh. MOT history updates after each test — typically within 24–48 hours of the test being completed.

Can I trust the MOT history shown?

Yes — MOT history displayed in MotR comes directly from the DVSA MOT History API, which is the same source used by government-run MOT history check services. It reflects the official DVSA database.
